The Home Ministry has approved the opening of a branch office of the NIA in Chennai. In recent times, terrorist activities have been on the rise in many parts of the country. Branch offices of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), which handles related cases, operate in nine cities in different states.
The Union Home Ministry has approved the opening of NIA branch offices in Chennai, Imphal, and Ranchi.
The NIA said, “The decision by the federal government will help to expedite counter-terrorism investigations in certain states. NIA has branches in Guwahati, Mumbai, Jammu, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Raipur, and Chandigarh.
The expansion of NIA branches in another 3 states will expedite for the prevention and investigation of terrorist crimes”.
