In 2017, the Supreme Court upheld Sasikala’s sentence of 4 years in prison in a property aggregation case. Sasikala has been lodged in the Bangalore Jail from February 2017.
Sasikala came out only on parole for particular things including her husband’s death. There was great controversy as Sasikala went shopping in violation of the rules of conduct inside the prison.
It has been reported, that Sasikala has not yet paid the fine in the property accumulation case. It was also said that this would delay the release date of Sasikala. But, Sasikala will be released in October, said by his lawyer.
Meanwhile, Bangalore-based social activist Narasimha Murthy had questioned the release of Sasikala through RTI. In response, the Bangalore Jail administration has informed that Sasikala may be released on January 27, 2021. This has caused excitement among Sasikala supporters.
On the other hand, Sasikala has not yet paid a fine of Rs 10 crore in the property accumulation case. If Sasikala fails to do so, he faces another year in prison. It has been reported that the release of Sasikala will be postponed for another year.
