Madurai: The Madurai branch of the High Court has ordered that 10 saplings should be planted if a tree is cut down for road widening as ordered by the Supreme Court.
Judges of the Madurai branch of the High Court have questioned “How many trees have been cut down for the Chennai-Madurai National Highway expansion project ?”.
In this regard, the National Highways Authority has been ordered to respond and as per the Supreme Court order, if one tree is cut down for road widening, 10 trees should be planted in return. The judges also ordered that trees should be maintained even after planting it on Highways.not be cut down for road widening if not maintained.
They ordered The National Highways Department and also to respond the number of trees felled for the national highway then the case was adjourned to November 5.
