Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe recently announced that he would resign from his post due to health issues. Following this, Shinzo Abe resigned as Prime Minister today. His ministers also resigned.
The Japanese parliament has elected Yoshihide Suga as the new prime minister. He is a former cabinet chief secretary.

Following the vote in Parliament, Speaker Tadamori Oshima said, “Our House has decided to elect Yoshihide Suga as Prime Minister according to the election results.”
Out of a total of 462 votes, Yoshihide Suga won by 314 votes. This victory was easily possible because the ruling Liberal Democratic Party has a majority with a coalition strength.
Yoshihide Suga is expected to release details of his ministers today. Of these, those already in Shinzo Abe’s cabinet are expected to become ministers again.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated the new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga. On his Twitter page, he said, “Congratulations to Yoshihide Suga. I look forward to the opportunity to take our excellent strategic and global partnership to new heights together. ”
