The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Wednesday announced that 24 universities in the country are fake, most of them operating in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

According to UGC Secretary Rajneesh Jain, there are 24 universities that are not accredited under the UGC Act. These universities have been declared fake. Of these, 8 universities are in Uttar Pradesh and 7 universities are in Delhi.
These universities do not have the authority to award any degree. The full list of these universities can be found on the UGC website. Unauthorized educational institutions are also prohibited from using the term ‘university’.
According to the UGC, there are 24 educational institutions, including St. John’s University in Kerala, Sri Bodhi Academy Institute of Education in Pondicherry, Christ New Testament Nicanil University in Andhra Pradesh, Raja Arabic University in Maharashtra, and Patakanvi Choco World Open University in Karnataka.
