Meghamalai is one of the important tourist destinations in the Theni district. It is rich in natural resources such as skyscrapers, hills, valleys, water bodies, and dams. Tourists are also flocking to the area as it is home to a variety of wildlife such as elephants, leopards, tigers, and wild deer.
Due to the climatic conditions prevailing in the hilly areas like Kodaikanal and Ooty, Meghamalai attracts a large number of tourists from Theni, Madurai, Dindigul, Chennai, and other states including Tamil Nadu.
Tourist arrivals are high, especially on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.
Now that the curfew has been phased out, the Tamil Nadu government has announced that e-passes will be required for hilly tourist destinations.

However, tourists coming to the Highways and Meghamalai areas do not get an e-pass and come without a corona medical check-up.
Due to this, the hill villagers feared that there was a possibility of spreading the disease in the area where there is no corona infection. Therefore, the district administration has demanded that tourists coming to Highways and Meghamalai should be regularized.
