On August 5 last year, before the special status of Kashmir was revoked, political party leaders were arrested under the Public Security Act and placed first in jail and then under house arrest. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah were released. Mehbooba was the only one under constant house arrest.
In the meantime, “The Supreme court questioned the Kashmir Administration that how long Mehbooba will be in jail and then they ordered the Kashmir administration to respond within two weeks”. This was announced by Rohit Kansal, Executive Spokesperson, Kashmir Union Territory.
Leaders, including Omar Abdullah, have welcomed Mehbooba’s release. After 14 months, Mehabooba was released last night.
