Muttiah Muralitharan has commented on the controversy surrounding his biopic ‘800’. Vijay Sethupathi has signed on to play Muttiah Muralitharan in the biopic.
The film is titled ‘800’ for the Muttiah Muralitharan biopic as he holds the record for taking 800 wickets. The opposition has arisen that Vijay Sethupathi should not act in the Muttiah Muralitharan biopic. Political party leaders, Sri Lankan Tamils, directors Bharathiraja, Seenu Ramasamy, Cheran, and many others have appealed to Vijay Sethupathi.
The protest raises the question of whether the ‘800’ film will be made as planned. Muttiah Muralitharan has issued a statement explaining all the rumors and protests currently circulating about him.
In it, Muthiah Muralitharan said:
“I have gone through many controversies in my life till date. Currently, I would like to give some explanations for the various controversies that have arisen around my biopic ‘800’.
Many of my own people were killed. We have lost our livelihood and stood in the middle of the street many times. Therefore, I also know the pain caused by the loss caused by war. Sri Lanka has been in a state of war for more than thirty years. It was in the middle of it that our life journey took place.
As far as I am concerned, I see everyone as one, whether they are Sinhalese or hill Tamils or Eela Tamils. As an upcountry Tamil, I have done more for the Eela people than I have for the hill people. I do not want to talk about the benefits of doing so forever. But, today I am forced to say it.
Every year we hold cricket matches under the name of MURALI HARMONY CUP for the reconciliation of the people in the North and East. There are still plenty of things like this. I have a wrong view of myself because of my record for being part of the Sri Lankan team. If I had been born in India I would have tried to feature in the Indian team. Was it my fault I was born a Sri Lankan Tamil?
Apart from all this, it is painful for some to portray me as ignorant and some for political reasons as if I am anti-Tamil. No matter how much explanation is given, the opponents can not convince anyone, but I give this explanation to the moderates and the general public, as only one page of false news about me is being shared. “
