The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) new executives are taking place on the 31st of Oct. For this, yesterday was the last day to file nominations.
The current leader, Adille Sumariwala, is contesting again for the post of chairman. Anju George, a world record holder in the long jump, has filed for the post of Senior Vice President.
Since no one else has filed a nomination against the two, Sumariwala is elected unopposed for the 3rd time as President and Anju George as Senior Vice President for the first time. Madhukant Pathak is the only candidate for the post of treasurer and he too is being selected without contest.
Sandeep Mehta and Ravinder Chaudhary are both contesting for the post of secretary. Sandeep Mehta has filed a petition for the post of Senior Joint Secretary. Thus it seems that he may withdraw from the contest for the post of secretary. Tomorrow is the last day to withdraw the nomination.
