Fireworks stalls are set up at the Chennai Island Complex every year for the Deepavali festival. The public will come from different parts of the country to buy firecrackers at the firecracker shops set up on the island in the main part of the city.
There are buyers and sellers. Fireworks stalls will be set up on the island during the Deepavali festival with 60 to 80 stalls each year. This year the Deepavali festival is celebrated on 14th November. Island exhibit management officials said various security measures would be put in place due to the Corona fear and a ‘tender’ had been called for the setting up of shops.
Officials said: About 30 to 40 shops are to be set up at Chennai Island this year. Stores have been halved this year due to corona fears. The tender will be finalized on the 1st. This will be followed by arrangements for setting up shops at 6-meter intervals. Visitors without a face mask will not be allowed inside. After spraying the disinfectant and monitoring the body temperature with a thermal scanner, the public can come to the premises where the firecracker shops are located.

A separate place called “Halting Point” is to be established. Crowds will be seated at the center and up to 20 to 40 people will be allowed to buy fireworks at regular intervals.
This year’s Diwali firecracker sale starts on the 6th of next month (November). Fireworks shops will be operational till the 15th. Auto and two-wheelers are not allowed on the island. Parking spaces will be announced later. Stores are scheduled to be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. There is an opportunity to change the opening hours of stores.
