Tirunelveli: The Christian cemetery garden belonging to the Udayarpatti Christian Church is located on the banks of the Manimurthyswaram Thamiraparani river under the Dachanallur police station.
On the 18th, a mob broke into the cemetery, damaged the cemetery and its perimeter wall, and fled. There have been a series of protests condemning this and demanding the arrest of those who damaged the tombs.
Executives of various parties including AIADMK and DMK had met the District Collector headed by Palayankottai Anthony Samy and submitted the petition.
In connection with the damage to the tombs, the Dachanallur police registered a case and arrested and jailed eight persons belonging to the Hindu People’s Party, namely Udayar, Muruganantham, Shankar, Sabari Rajan alias Ayyappan, Chermandurai, Kandan, Radhakrishnan, and Subramanian.
Tirunelveli Municipal Commissioner of Police Deepak Damor has ordered that all the eight persons involved in the case be remanded in custody under the National Security Act.
Following this, the Dachanallur police yesterday issued an order for the detention of 8 criminals under the National Security Act.
