As air pollution continues to rise in the capital Delhi, the federal government has brought in an emergency law to curb air pollution in and around Delhi. The law came into force immediately after the President approved it.
Anyone who causes air pollution in violation of a government order is liable to a fine of up to one crore rupees and imprisonment for up to 5 years or both under this Act.
The emergency law provides for the establishment of a separate board to prevent air pollution. The board will have representatives from government departments and state governments.

The air quality index in Delhi was above the danger level as of this morning. In the Anand Vihar area, it was 401 points, in Alipore it was 405 points and in Wazirpur it was 410 points.
